Children in the Elementary Program build upon skills and concepts introduced in the Primary Program. Some of the same materials are present, but their use is extended. Children are exposed to many new materials and ideas. The Montessori curriculum provides a framework that is open-ended which includes the following areas; biology, geography, history, language, mathematics and geometry. The various aspects of the curriculum are not broken down into separate subject matters, but are treated as a totally integrated curriculum. Children participate in a "Cosmic Education". The academic curriculum is also enriched by art, music and physical education.
Skills and concepts continue to be expanded and refined over the six year period that spans the Elementary Program. The concentration of the final years of the Elementary Program is on the crystallization of an academic foundation within a secure emotional setting with an added emphasis on social responsibility.
Children relate their classroom experiences to the larger world outside the classroom during field trips, "going out" trips and a week long trip to Echo Hill Outdoor Educational School.
