TODDLER
COMMUNITY:
AGES 18 TO 21MONTHS
Monday through Friday; 8:45 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Maximum class size: 12 children
Staffing: 1 AMI Directress & 1 Aid
Openings are currently available-
When
children are able to walk with stability they are ready for extensive
exploration outside the home. The materials of this environment
are based on activities of the home: cooking, cleaning, washing,
flower arranging and so forth. Puzzles and manipulative games
and objects aid the children in the development of their senses,
hand control, balance and coordination. The children develop an
awareness of their own rights and limits, as well as the rights
and limits of others.
From 33 to 36 months of age, children join the Primary Class.
PRIMARY PROGRAM:
AGES 3 TO 6+ YEARS
Monday through
Friday; 8:40 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Maximum class size: 36 children
Staffing: 1 AMI Directress & 1 Aid
*Extended
day for children 5 to 6 years from 12:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
Entry-level admissions
for Primary are extremely limited due to children transitioning
from the Infant Community. Each primary class is composed of a mixed
age group of 3 to 6 years old. During the morning class session,
children are exposed to individual and small group learning situations
in a prepared environment which includes the major curricular areas;
the exercise of practical life, sensorial activities, language,
mathematics and cultural subjects such as biology, geography, art,
music, and movement experiences.
*As children near 5 years of age, they join the Extended Day.
Children in the Extended Day remain at school for recess and lunch;
then have a continuation of the Montessori program in the afternoon,
which prepares them for the Montessori elementary program.
This group is smaller, and is directed by the Directress only.
Because most children
enter our Toddler Community at 18 months, there are limited openings
in the Primary and Elementary programs.
